Open Studios, 24th and 25th May

Posted on: April 13th, 2014 by juliamills

Open Studios are a brilliant opportunity to get to know the work of local artists in a setting where you can touch and explore as you like and ask questions over a cup of tea, providing an insight into the process of creation that is unique to each of us.

Julia MillsPerched above the fishing port of Newlyn, my house and studio are where my imagination runs away with me. Filled with light and the sights and sounds of busy a seaside town, the house is a treasure-trove of found objects, images collected for inspiration and the work of my favourite artists.

I’ll be throwing open the doors for two days on the 24th and 25th May from 11am to 5pm each day. It will be a chance to see the way I work, from the initial design to the finished article, manipulating the form and colour of individual pieces of glass to achieve the desired effect.

You are most welcome to call in and find out more about my work, and why not have a go at creating your own unique design?! Try your hand at working up an image on paper for a framed panel – I’ll show you some examples before you decide which colours and formal elements you want to include. You can choose landscape features, plants and animals which have a particular significance for you. If you like what you have drawn, I can make it up for you as a bespoke piece of glass art!

abbottellwoodI will also be selling lots of lovely ceramics, including work by Russell Gibbs and Bethan Jones. Cards and some jewellery will also be available, with a special offer running on brooches from the wonderful duo Abbott and Ellwood.

My address:

6 Orchard Terrace

The house is a 2 min walk from the centre of Newlyn, where there are several car parks. Please note the lane which leads to my gate is steep (hence the great view!) and there are some steps – it is not suitable for disabled access unfortunately.
